Harris County homeowners who repaired their homes damaged by Hurricane Harvey may receive reimbursement through a Harris County program.
“Folks will be able to apply for reimbursement going forward so long as they can provide receipts showing the work for which they are requesting reimbursement is/was completed by Dec. 31, 2019,” said Colin Gary, a member of the Harris County Project Recovery Harvey community outreach team.
The team received federal funding earlier this year to help people repair or rebuild their home depending upon the level of damage to their home, he said.
To apply for reimbursement, people can visit www.harrisrecovery.org or call 832-927-4961 to fill out an application and get the process started.
During a Nov. 19 presentation to the Katy Area Economic Development Council, Gary said that Oct. 31 was the deadline to receive reimbursement for work done on damaged homes.
“After my presentation it was decided that people would need additional time to apply and so the Oct. 31st deadline has been rescinded,” Gary said.
The maximum amount on reimbursements is $50,000, he said.
Funds also are available to help repair a home up to $80,000 and to rebuild a home up to $160,000. If judged to be over 50 percent damaged, they can tear down the existing structure and build a brand-new home on the premises, he said. If Harris County requires the rebuilt home to be elevated to meet codes, the county will do the elevation as well, he added.
